TEFL Schools and Reviews

Our database of TEFL schools and reviews provides first hand insight to the lives of teachers in China complete with reviews and comments from people who have worked there in the past. Inspired in response to the frightening number of fake reviews of Chinese schools posted online. Our reviews are aimed at providing detailed, quality reviews from real teachers with ample facts, evidence and pictures. Aimed at giving people a look into the school before they choose to teach there! This page provides a short list of the most recently posted school reviews.

If you are looking for a school in particular then you can search for it using the search icon on the right hand side of the site. Many schools have multiple branches in different Chinese cities so it may help to read a range of reviews on your potential employer to get a complete feel for what they offer.

First Leap English, Beijing & Shenyang

Hi! My name is Lewis. I’m originally from the UK, born and raised in a small city called Bath, located in the South West of England. The intention of this blog is to give you an honest insight of my first couple of months in China. I will describe from my own perspective and I’ll try to be as honest as I can. I would describe my first week in China as ‘dangerously interesting’. When I say that now, it was a learning curve for me. But when I first came, I had difficulties in terms my contract with my…

Hangzhou Tourism Vocational College (Binjiang Campus), Hangzhou, Zhejiang

Facilities: Generally pretty good.  There are interactive white boards (although sometimes they work, sometimes not), but I tend just to stick with using the technology for projecting photos as I’m always very wary of death by powerpoint.  The school printer is available and functioning, and I have a desk in one of the teaching offices.  The school has a canteen which is relatively cheap to eat at, although I’m a fairly fussy eater and usually go for a bit more choice in the centre of the neighbourhood (15 minute walk). Location: I am a short walk from the local shops, the nearest…

Tiantai Experimental Primary School, Tiantai, Taizhou

Teaching facilities – Top notch. They have a kind of interactive whiteboard/computer thingy as well as two whiteboards, which can make the teaching job itself much easier. The also have course books for each teacher to stick to. Location – It’s a small town in the middle of nowhere, two hours coach drive from Hangzhou. Lots of the other teachers seemed to be within an hour of Hangzhou so it dismayed me to discover that I was miles away from the nearest foreigner. There’s bugger all to do here. The locals’ idea of a Saturday night is either to go…

Echo English Binjiang claassroom

A Review of Echo English, Hangzhou

They lied to me, to get me into places like Tiantai – a tiny town with no foreigners and nothing to do –  then they tried it again with Yueqing. One of their employees sexually harassed me within hours of my stepping off the plane. The school pays Echo between 13,000 – 16,000 RMB a month. I only see 6,000 of that. They refused to move me from Tiantai when I was genuinely considering suicide due to months of miserable isolation, instead threatening to blacklist me so I would never get another teaching job in China again. When I eventually…
