1 Need to be a Graduate.
Whatever it is you have studied from Science to Law, having a degree is something that China TEFLer typically looks for, and is wanted by the schools out in China.
2 Need to be an English speaking national.
The schools require that applicants must be English-speaking nationals. Whether you are from Britain, Canada, Australia or America, as long as English is your mother tongue, and you have a passport to prove that you’re eligible then you can apply today.
3 TEFL certificate
(TEFL: Teach English as a foreign language) This one is an important one. 4 DBS check
Some schools require that you have a DBS check to check that you don’t have a criminal record. Just as it would be required for any teaching position in the UK, it may also be asked of you depending on where you end up teaching.
5 Passion
I couldn’t write a blog post without mentioning something cliché, and so the fifth requirement is that you have a passion to teach and help Chinese students learn English. It is all well you having all the above requirements, but without some drive and passion to do your job well you won’t get very far.
